I just read a project description on rentacoder.com site from where we get bulk of our work.

 

We need a website for alumni( php & mysql). Alumni will sign up and each one will have tools to use like individual page with his/herprofile, invite members, wink them etc.

We are expecting 15 batches are going to register (each batch has50 students) from 1994-2014. Therefore while registering on this website. Youneed to put them in the batch wise database. You can use the criteria forregistration such as year of pass/batch and place of study along with other info.Each profile will have one page with photo upload option.

·Afterlogin…they should be able to see only the profile of their batchments. But noother profile.

Ex: A is a student of 2000. When helogs in, he should be able to see only 2000 batch students and can invite, sendmassage, wink them or add them.

 

I have been trying to find a good low-cost/free alumni script but seems like there aren’t out there or maybe I haven’t tried hard enough. But this doesn’t make the idea of having a out-of-the-box set of themes/plugins built for wordpress to create an alumni site in a jiffy. Apart from selling the theme/plugins or monetising it with other things, the alumni site itself can be provided as a hosted solution so that people can just purchase/signup with their domain and have a working alumni site including hosting.  I am not sure how much big this market is but it seems to be good idea nonetheless. I am thinking of collecting 2-3 member team and get this idea a concrete shape in coming few months. If you are interested to provide suggestions or help us out just put up a comment and maybe we can work out something.

Opengarage is an initiative by Harmony Infotech (Web Development Company based in Vizag, India) to help budding entrepreneurs give concrete shape to their ideas , so that it can move 1 step closer to becoming  a real business (Read that as attracting angel investors). The idea can range from creating a simple electronic gadget to running a complex ecommerce business.  Many people want to try their hands on starting something on their own but due to various reasons aren’t able to pursue their dreams. We would like to make it easier for them to overcome the first obstacle ie converting the idea into something concrete so that they can move ahead with making it a real business. We also have lots of ideas which we would like to pursue ourselves but due to shortage of time/money/members are not able to do full justice to them.   There are many things which you may also be dreaming to do ( Like making simple robots) but are not able to do it due to lack of time/other commitments.

As such we are aiming to create an environment conducive to make it simple for people

  • To either work on their ideas
  • Or to work on other’s ideas
  • Or to guide them who fits in the first two categories.

Though this initiative is aimed to be totally open/free  in nature ie. we would try to be as open as possible with regards to ideas,source codes, business decisions etc. but it won’t be totally a free lunch so as to speak.  There may be some upfront costs ( in case we are supposed to make something available which aren’t free to being with) or some kind of cost/revenue share. As each project can be unique in nature,  the specifics will be decided after consulting all the parties involved.
